The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIAA) offers a professional certification process for those with a strong background in accountancy, including a basic knowledge of trading in conventional markets, portfolio theory, and successful models of financial instruments. The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation is earned through successfully passing examinations on two different levels. After passing the Level I examination, candidates have three years to complete the Level II Test.

The core of the Level I Test deals with measurements of performance, strategies of trading, regulations and rules, strategies for measuring success, and other analytical basics. The Level II Test covers material on a more universal level. Some of the areas covered are indexing and benchmarking, assessing risks, managing a portfolio, and allocating assets, among others.

Several companies offer courses that can prepare an individual for these tests. Some universities offer a curriculum that is designed to help those wishing to test for the Chartered Alternative Analyst Certificate, and most of these courses may be done online. There are also private businesses who have established pathways for those seeking this prestigious designation. If a candidate wishes to study without using a conventional method, the CAIAA has study guides online and also offers study groups. Past candidates have indicated that time wise, mastering the material to obtain a CAIA certification takes around four hundred hours of intensive self-study.

The tests for obtaining a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association certification are given twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. Once these tests have been mastered, those with the certification of a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst may work in the areas of private equity, hedge funds, and managed futures. They are also especially equipped to work in real estate, venture capital, and foreign exchange investments.

This expertise will make them valuable employees in investment firms, banks, loan agencies, and credit companies. The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst certification also gives them the credentials needed to work internationally so this adds to the number of job markets available. Because of this great demand, salaries are outstanding in this field but exact numbers always depend on the success of the analyst.

In order to practice Accountancy in the UK, certain qualifications are required. The process of becoming qualified to work as an accountant in the UK involves earning one of several qualifications. The easiest route to take is to obtain an accounting degree. Specializing in finance will enable you to progress to a farther level in your field. You can also take an ACCA course, although for some these will be prohibitively expensive. An alternative would be to study for your accounting qualification without the assistance of a professionally organized course, although this will require the purchase of many books and a real dedication to studying the material therein.

The Association of Accounting Technicians is a professional organization which can assist you with your accounting qualifications and with finding a job after passing your qualifications.

Once a qualified accountant, jobs will be available in many fields. Accountants are required by almost every business and industry, from financial sector work straight through to Hollywood and BBC productions. Freelance opportunities are also available to qualified accountants, where they work with companies that might not need a full time accounting department but still have financial matters that need to be looked after.

By studying for and qualifying in accounting, an individual is opening a number of doors for their future. The AAT – Association of Accounting Technicians and membership in it give potential employers and clients a solid factual basis for their decision to work with a particular accountant.

Once an individual has qualified as an accountant in the United Kingdom, they are able to practice this profession with little hindrance. Many accountants find that their work allows them to explore other areas of interest while earning a steady living, for example, it would allow someone with an interest in sport or music to have exposure to those industries without the risk of unemployment that people who choose careers in those fields often experience.

The AAT has a web site so you can keep up to date with the latest news and training courses – AAT Offical Site.

Accounting is a solid field which offers many opportunities for employment and exploration of an individual’s interests, and the AAT – Association of Accounting Technicians is an excellent starting point.
