Obtaining an Investment Management Certificate prepares someone to work in the financial sector. Specifically, it applies to understanding and managing investments and portfolios, and the inner workings of the financial market. This training can further enhance an accountancy career. Other career options include working in banking corporations or investment firms as a portfolio manager or fund advisor.

The program can be done as a self-study course (by using the workbook or e-learning), and can also be taken at an accredited training provider centre. For those that are already in a financial services career, the self study option may be sufficient enough. For people that are not as familiar with the inner workings of the financial sector, the more comprehensive training would be beneficial. The training consists of topics including economics, the classes of assets and different investment strategies and investment analysis. Other topics of interest are taxation, statistics and portfolio management. The candidate should not only become familiar with these topics, but be able to apply them in the day to day workings of being in investment management. The ability to decipher the different sources of financial data is very important. Being able to research and analyze sources such as Reuters, Bloomberg and other financial data information is imperative.

The Investment Management Certificate exam is given on the computer and consists of multiple choice questions. The exam will use graphs, accounts and charts. Results are given before a candidate leaves the testing centre. The exam should be booked far enough in advance so the training and studying are not rushed. Full attention to all parts of the syllabus should be given.

All details and up to date news can be found on their web site IMC Home, so check for any further updates, please let us know if we can add more to this article.

All candidates working the financial sector abide by the Professional Code of Conduct. This is especially true for those that are seeking an Investment Management Certificate. Working as a broker fund advisor, investment banker or portfolio manager are positions that require a great deal of trust and ethics
